Mud Run 2013

Well, I did it. I completed the mud run with my crazy friend Anna. I had several moments that I didn’t think I would finish and did not feel so hot when it was over, but now that I’m showered and have eaten something I’m feeling great and so glad that I did it! I may or may not have cussed Anna out the entire time and probably told her that I hated her 1,000 times, but in the end I’m glad she talked me into it. Thanks for sticking with me, boo! It was fun!

Savannah | The Woodlands High School Senior Photographer

Savannah came to her shoot with lots of fun clothes, an eye for fashion, and my favorite part…she is a dancer. She rocked this session and was so fun to shoot! She brought along her prom dress and OMG! The end of the shoot was my favorite part! I put her dance skills to the test and she killed it! Thanks again to Anna DeLong at Salons at the Lake for coming along and changing up the hair and makeup for each outfit change! If you are going to get your senior pictures taken, please consider having her come along! She helps take your pictures to the next level!
Congrats to Savannah on graduating next month, then she heads off to college in August to Texas Tech!

Toma Lodge Wedding | Ruston, Louisiana: Adam & Abbey

This is a love story that is 17 years in the making. They met in high school and dated until it was time to move on to college. They went their separate ways, started their careers and had moved on with their lives. They kept in touch and remained friends, but it could never be anything more than that because they lived in different states. Fast forward to last year…out of the blue he contacted her and the sparks that were there 17 years ago, well, they were still there, actually, I don’t think they ever really went away. Abbey moved home and on April 27th they started their lives together as husband and wife.

I know their story because, well, I know them. We are all from the same town, went to the same school and have the same friends. I was beyond excited when Abbey called to tell me she was moving back home and that she and Adam were back together. You see, their wedding day was a long time coming…it should have happened years ago. Adam, he never stopped loving her and waited patiently for her to come back and say “Yes!” And Abbey..she never stopped loving him either.

I was thrilled to be a part of their day! It was beautiful, intimate and totally them! I have to give a HUGE thanks to my partner in crime, Ashley at Ashley Grier Photography. She came and helped me shoot the wedding so I could enjoy myself and visit with everyone. You rock in so many ways and I’m grateful for you!

So without further ado…Mr. & Mrs. Bamburg!

The reception was held later that night and Abbey and Adam both made a wardrobe change. I’m in love with her party dress and of course Adam’s bowtie was on point! I’m pretty sure they are the cutest couple EVER!

The first dance was to Etta James’s “At Last” which was so fitting for them! After that, I put my camera down and enjoyed the rest of the festivities!

Adam and Abbey, I wish you both a lifetime of happiness! Thank you so much for including me in your special day! Love love!!!!

Aright, Stop! Collaborate and Listen!!

I was recently asked the following question:

“Can you please explain to me how a collaboration relationship works? Like with hair and makeup? Maybe I don’t quite understand but if you are providing the images for their portfolio as well as your time and talent, do you need to compensate them too? I know it takes time out of their day as well as their products, but isn’t the same for photographers?”

I may be an exception, though I hope not, but I have some amazing relationships with several people in the industry. I am very lucky to have lots of talented friends who are photographers and love coming up with fun ideas for shoots or just meeting up for dinner. I’m also very very blessed to work with an amazing hair and makeup artist. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come to her with an idea for a shoot and she takes my idea and runs wild with the hair and makeup and every single time, she makes my idea a 1000 times better! To me, that is what it’s all about! Coming together with like minds and creating amazing shoots!

Now, let’s talk compensation. Do I get paid for these types of shoots? No. Does my hair and makeup artist get paid? No. Does anyone else who participates in these shoots? No. We are all coming together to give of our time, talent, products, ect…FREELY! This is to build our portfolio. Do I give all of my vendors pictures of their beautiful work? YES! I guess if you get right down to it, we are paying each other with our talents. I am getting to use their hair and makeup products, or their flowers, or cupcakes or whatever it may be and they are getting to use my pictures to put on their website or Facebook page or wherever they want to put it. And the best part? We become friends and have someone in this industry that I can talk to and have fun with.

On a side note: if someone you are wanting to collaborate with wants you to pay them, great, but please make sure that you let them know that they will in turn have to pay for the pictures that they may want for their portfolio. Regardless if you are getting paid or not…HAVE A SIGNED CONTRACT!!! Make sure everything is spelled out loud and clear in writing!

Brittany | Cypress Ranch High School

Meet Brittany…she reminds me of an old Hollywood actress with all of her gorgeous-ness! I had an amazing time photographing her and of course brought along my partner in crime, Anna DeLong to change up the hair and makeup for each outfit! Speaking of outfits, Brittany and her mom showed up with LOTS to choose from! They thought about every little detail for each outfit from shoes, to jewelry and even some amazing head pieces! To say my photography heart was over joyed would be an understatement! Thank you for such a great shoot!

The Exhibit Project: Beginnings

We all know how much I love Jasmine Star and all the love that the gives out to other photographers. She recently did a 3 month course called ReStart that basically changed my business and I can’t wait to implement all of the changes! While doing ReStart I have met some amazing photographers along the way and have loved all of the connections! I joined a group of photographers that are part of a new project…The Exhibit Project. We basically have monthly themes that we have to go out and photograph, then blog about it. It makes us step out of our box, hone our craft, and shoot for fun! This month’s theme is beginnings. For me, I chose to shoot a senior. While most think your senior year is the end of an era, I like to think it’s the beginning of adulthood. It’s when you get to start fresh and go off to college, think about your future and begin your new life. Here is Blake’s senior session…Is he not handsome or what? He will be graduating this year from New Caney High School and heading off to Blinn College. Good luck, Blake!

Weight Watchers Wednesday

Well, I’ve finally hit a wall in the weight loss journey. Every week for the past 10 weeks I have lost, but on the 11th week I had a gain of .4 lbs I spent the weekend in Dallas with my girlfriends for a bachelorette party and if I’m being honest…I was pretty sure I was going to gain at least 2 lbs, so I wasn’t terribly upset with .4. I can promise you that next week is going to be a great one! Also…my favorite jeans that I talked about a few weeks ago?? Well, I was finally able to fit into them, BUT today I ripped them right in the crotch! To say I’m sad about it is an understatement!

So, after all of that I am back on track and on my way to a skinnier, healthier me I hope that everyone that is joining me on this journey is hanging in there! I don’t have a recipe for today, but here is a picture of my and my Abbey (the bride to be) from this weekend. See…I can clean up every once in a while!
